Major bank warns against EU exit

Santander has warned Britons that leaving the EU could have a detrimental impact on the UK's economy.

Santander has warned Britons that leaving the EU could have a detrimental impact on the UK’s economy.

Ahead of the EU referendum on 23rd June, Nathan Bostock, CEO of Santander UK, has moved to clarify the bank’s stance.

Nathan said: "Our assessment is that membership of a reformed EU is in the best interests of customers, whereas leaving the EU would create significant uncertainties which will have a negative effect on businesses and the economy.

“We respect this is a decision for voters and that our customers and employees will have their own views.

“Supporting them through any outcome and continuing to invest in and grow our business will be our priority."

A question mark has also been raised about the impact an EU exit will have on the UK’s property investment market.

A CBRE report found that 73% of property investors feared a Brexit would make the UK a less attractive place to invest.
