Kit Thompson, Director of Bridging Finance at Brightstar Financial, talks music including why Justin Bieber and Madonna should be banned from the music industry.

Kit Thompson, who plays guitar in an Essex band named The Haze, talks to The Weekender this month about his passion for music.

The Bridging Director and accomplished musician has been playing lead guitar in bands since he was 14 and still manages to fit in his hobby around his career and his wife and three children.

When talking about his all-time favourite music to listen to, Kit explains: “I’m a big fan of 70’s and 80’s rock, so artists like Led Zep, Deep Purple, Hendrix, Cream, Van Halen etc.”

Currently, Kit listens to a variety of music and said: “I mainly listen to artists whom we have decided to cover in our band, as part of constantly learning new material, so it is pretty varied, rather than one particular artist."

The Bridging Director has been performing in pubs and clubs since he was around 16, and said that his music idols as a guitarist were: “Eddie Van Halen or Jimi Hendrix.”

When asked who he reckoned has the worst music taste in the finance industry, Kit replied: “Probably Mo Mulki (if his dress sense is anything to go by).”

Not modest in the slightest, Kit replied to ‘who has the best music taste in the industry’ with: “Myself, obviously.”

Kit then announced his opinion on who he thinks should be banned from the music industry, by slating Justin Bieber and Disney star Miley Cyrus. He added: “Madonna has definitely had her day too!”

Kit recommends and encourages people to visit more live music shows and venues. He said: “Keep music live and support local live music venues [and] artists.”

Although Kit will be playing his guitar in his band at a few smaller festivals this year, he admits he won’t be intending any other gigs himself. Kit concludes: “I don’t have much time outside of Brightstar, the Bridging Industry and performing myself! Otherwise I try and spend as much time with my wife and kids as I can.”
