Zopa passes £2bn lending milestone

Zopa has announced that it has now lent over £2bn and claims to be the first UK peer-to-peer lending platform to reach this landmark figure.

Since 2005, the lender has issued 300,000 loans to 246,000 borrowers through 75,000 investors.

Zopa is now planning to extend its consumer products range.

Jaidev Janardana, CEO of Zopa, said: “We’re excited to be the first UK peer-to-peer lender to pass the £2bn milestone.

“Over the last 12 years, we’re proud to say we’ve helped a third of a million people get better interest rates for both borrowing and lending.”

Zopa issued more than £703m in low-interest, unsecured loans over the last 12 months.

“The £2bn milestone demonstrates how far we have come, but our journey is only just getting started.

“Our decision to launch a next generation bank reflects our mission to create better options for consumers and to shape the future of finance.”

Late last year, Zopa underwent a rebrand and revealed plans to launch a bank.
