Recession 'prompts surge in holiday home investments'
Thursday 10th September 2009Difficult economic conditions are leading to more Britons investing in holiday homes within the UK, it has been claimed.
Geoff O'Neill, owner of the South Hams branch of Coastal Property Search, said that holiday homes offer good investment potential and are a reliable investment opportunity.
He added that, despite the state of the property market in the last couple of years, investing in real estate is always reliable as it is a long-term proposition.
"People have got to be cautious about any investment they make, but property may be as good as anything else," Mr O'Neill explained.
"Generally [holiday homes] are the best properties for investment They are always going to appeal, they are going to be popular areas which always have that appeal."
Recent figures from Nestoria.co.uk revealed that house prices in UK holiday 'hotspots' rose in June and July, with the biggest year-on-year increase (45 per cent) being reported in Thurso in the Scottish Highlands.
