10 Questions with Lorenzo Satchell of the Blemain Group

He's one Blemain Group's newest recruits, and when he's not working he's a big fan of all things fresh and exciting...

Katie-Jill Rowland speaks to Lorenzo Satchell, Divisional Sales Manager at the Blemain Group...

1.      How long have you been at The Blemain Group and what did you do previously?

I’ve actually only recently joined Blemain Group in the last month. Prior to this I was head of National accounts for Money Partners before spending some time broking which has been a great education in understanding what life is really like in the current climate for intermediaries. It’s given me a more rounded view of looking at things from a broker’s perspective which will put me in a good position for my new role as Divisional Sales Manager.

B&C: What attracted you to the role at Blemain Group?

Blemain Group has been lending for over 35 years in all aspects of property finance and has continued to lend, where others have had to pull out of the industry. More importantly, the cultural mind set and the diversity of the business’ involved makes it a great company to be a part of.

2.      If you could do anything you wanted this Sunday, what would it be?

I’d probably just spend some time with the family and relax. I’ve not got to see them much over the last month as I was initially based in Manchester. If the weather is nice my daughter will have me playing Tennis, Netball, Hockey and every other ball sport you can think off. Very relaxing!!!!

3.      What did you want to be when you were a Kid?

I always wanted to be a professional footballer or a boxer.

4.      And which football team do you support and why?

Tottenham Hotspurs. I used to watch the mighty spurs as a kid with the likes of  Glenn Hoddle, Mickey Hazard, Steve Perryman and not forgetting our GAZZA!! I still like to go and watch now if I get any spare time but otherwise the view from my sofa on the 42” plasma is good enough for me.

5.      What is the best and worst thing about your job?

The best thing is the old cliché that no day is the same and you never know what to expect, so it keeps things fresh and exciting. I also love working with such varied brokers from different walks of life. Or if I’m being cheeky then I’d say it’s winning business over the competition.

6.      What would you be doing if you weren’t working in this industry?

If I wasn’t in finance then I would love to be running my own gym franchise across the country. I’m actually a qualified fitness instructor so it’s definitely something I’m passionate about and could have been an alternative career path.

7.      What’s your favourite movie and why?

I’m not sure I couldn’t name just one, there are hundreds of films that come to mind. I love the Rocky films and I’m a massive Al Pacino and Robert De Niro fan.

8.      What do you expect to happen in the bridging finance industry over the next 12 months?

I think what is apparent is that bridging has come to the forefront in the last 12-18 months and now more lenders are experimenting with short term funding; so in the next year I expect the market to become even more competitive. I imagine lenders will start to offer more innovative products such as our 3 month discount bridge at 0.75% in order to compete. I think it will be an exciting and fast paced year and one where the established lenders in the market will capitalise on opportunities in this sector.

9.      What you put in room 101 if you had the chance?

Reality TV. The world has gone mad when reality television shows are winning BAFTA’s.

10. What’s your favourite book?

The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown.
