10 Questions with Gareth Lewis of Tiuta

If he could be an animal, he'd be a bear....

Katie-Jill Rowland speaks to Gareth Lewis, Head of Business Development at Tiuta plc...

1. What made you decide to leave Cheval to join Tiuta?

I spent seven years at Cheval and made some great friends over the years but sometimes things reach their natural end – seven-year itch you might say.  Tiuta came to me at the right time and given both party’s circumstance it was perfect; Tiuta mirror my ambitions and drive to be at the forefront of the industry.

2.What is the best thing about your job?

Obviously meeting brokers and building relationships is a great part of my job but to be honest I love the buzz of making things happen. When a broker calls you with a transaction that they need to structure and complete within a short period of time it’s a great feeling to be able to work on this and take it through to completion.

3.What do you expect to happen in the bridging finance industry over the next 12 months?

The reality is that this market is constantly evolving, with product changes, new entrants and discussions about regulation you can hardly keep bridging finance out of the press. While there is still a shortage of funding for bankable clients our market will continue to gather pace, how long for who knows, but for the time being we know bridging will continue to stimulate minds and transactions.  The FSA and regulation is looming ever closer as well.

4.What did you want to be when you were a kid?

The easy answer would be footballer or any type of sportsman.

5.Which football team do you support and why?

Arsenal, I was a big Tony Adams fan. It’s all a bit, for want of a better word, ‘girly’ these days though.

6.What would you put in Room 101 if you had the chance?

The M25, it really is a car park at times. I do a lot of miles in the car and I have to add extra time to my journey just to compensate for it.

7.What is your favourite song and why?

Reef, ‘Place your hands’. It gets the blood pumping.

8.If you were an animal what kind of animal would you be, and why?

Not really sure why but one of my nicknames is bear so I guess it would have to be one of those.

9.Who would play you in a movie of your life?

Dom Jolly, he supposedly has the misfortune of looking a little like me. So I get told anyway.

10.If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?

Hopefully, “It’s not your time” or alternatively, “You’ve had a good innings, well done”.
