10 Questions with David Hey of Norton Broker Services

He'd love to be a professional golfer, so that he could enjoy sport without giving up fine wines...

Katie Jill Rowland speaks to David Hey, Broker Liaison Officer at Norton Broker Services...

1. How long have you been at Norton Finance?

I've been with the company 5 years

2. What did you want to be when you were younger?

A professional footballer or golfer, until I realised I am not partucularly good at either, so settled for Financial Services.

3. If you could do anything this weekend what would it be?

I would love to have lots of winning horses at Doncaster  Racecourse on Friday and then enjoy spending my winnings for the remainder of the weekend.

4. Do you support a particular football team?

Unfortunately yes, I support Sheffield United. Although I am also a closet Manchester United fan, which I am slowly starting to come to terms with.

5. What is the best aspect of your job, and what's the worst?

The best has to be meeting and speaking to the new and existing brokers and being able to help with enquires through the many facilities offered by the "One Stop Shop" when no one else in the market can offer a solution.

The worst is the amazing lack of a common sense from many lending companies, although thankfully having access to our own in house 1st & 2nd Charge Lenders often allows us to provide a solution to a loan enquiry which helps maintain the excellent relationship we have with our Introducers

6. If you could choose an alternative career what would it be?

Would most definitely be a professional golfer, they get to travel the world and play the most amazing golf course's in the most stunning locations.

Whilst being a professional sportsman they are still able to enjoy the good things in life such as fine wines and excuisite foods.

7. Where's your favourite place in the world?

Has to be Valencia, such an amazing city, with beautiful architecture, amazing restaurants, exciting nightlife, whilst being located on the beach. Everything you could ever want for either a holiday or weekend get away.

8. If you could swap lives with one person for a day who would it be? And why?

Tiger Woods (see the theme), .. I'd love to see what it feels like to strike a golf ball so well and also see how difficult it is to
handle the every day pressure that is heaped upon him.Would also be interesting to see how he feels after going from the most loved and coveted sportsman/person in America to almost public enemy number one.

9. What would you put in room 101 if you had the chance?

Oil Company Executives who continue to increase the price of Petrol and Diesel at the garage forecourt

10. What do you expect to happen in the short term lending industry over the next 12 months?

I expect the industry to continue to grow. Brokers are now looking to use Secured Loans as an alternative to Remortgages as in many cases it offers their clients the most appropriate loan product for debt consolidation or home improvements.

I just hope the FSA allows the industry to continue to grow as although it forms only a small part of the lending sector the shortterm funding area plays a vital role in helping Borrowers to consolidate debt into one manageable monthly payment.
