10 questions with Claire Wasbrough of Masthaven

She's been at Masthaven for two and a half years, would have loved to have been a pop singer and has a phobia of pigeons...

Miranda Atty speaks to Claire Wasbrough, Senior Underwriter at Masthaven...

1. How long have you been at Masthaven and what did you do previously?

I’ve worked at Masthaven for 2 ½ years now. Before that I worked for a number of property development and investment companies.

2. What did you want to be when you were a kid?

I have a recollection of singing in to my hairbrush all the time and dancing round the house so probably a pop singer!

3. If you could do anything you wanted this Sunday, what would it be?

I would invite my friends round for a roast dinner with all the trimmings and a few glasses of wine.

4. Which football team do you support and why?

I don’t support a football team and don’t really follow it. I have however been to a few games – Chelsea v Sheffield Utd at Stamford Bridge and also FC Barca v Getafe in Barcelona – both of which were great games and I absolutely loved the atmosphere.

5. What is the best and worst thing about your job?

The best things are the people, both within the company and externally, and also the sense of satisfaction when a difficult loan is completed. The most frustrating thing is not being able to progress a loan for a reason completely outside my control which results in the case either not going ahead, or taking ages to get to completion!

6. If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

I’d be a giraffe as I’m fairly short and am usually the butt of all vertically challenged jokes so being as tall as a giraffe would make a nice change.

7. What’s your favourite movie and why?

I have a number of favourites, one of them being Calamity Jane. Very very cheesy but it’s such a happy film and is always guaranteed to cheer me up after a bad day.

8. What do you expect to happen in the bridging finance industry over the next 12 months?

Regulation is going to continue to tighten so those firms that are regulated, like Masthaven, will be one step ahead of the rest. I think we’re going to continue to see new companies entering the marketplace, increasing the competition further between the current players, which in my opinion can only be a good thing. With the plethora of new lenders offering ever increasing low rates on the right type of deal, I think we will see more differing “offers” to the broker such as Masthaven’s industry leading rate on commercial bridging at 1.1%.

9. What would you put in room 101 if you had the chance?

That’s an easy one, pigeons! I have a big phobia of pigeons and can’t stand them. I will cross the road just to avoid them.

10. What’s your favourite book?

Again it’s too hard to choose just one favourite. The Count of Monte Cristo and Dracula are pretty high up on the list.
