Katie-Jill Rowland speaks to Anita Kirkbright of West One Loans...
1. How long have you been at West One Loans and what did you do previously?
This is my third day at West One. My previous role was Head of Operations at Tiuta
2. What did you want to be when you were a kid?
A teacher (this will not surprise a lot of people that know me!). My favourite game as a child was playing schools. My friends would be the pupils and I was the bossy teacher. I even gave them homework! How bad is that. I’m sure their mums were pleased that I helped with their education.
3. If you could do anything you wanted this Sunday, what would it be?
Have a lie in. I have enjoyed a couple of months of waking up naturally, so it’s been a real shock to the system getting up so early. So the first thing that comes to mind is sleep.
4. Which football team do you support and why?
Now you are onto my favourite social subject – football. I support Tottenham Hotspur and am a season ticket holder. Why do I support them? Well, my dad is an Arsenal supporter (*cough*), and my older brother supported Tottenham, probably out of rebellion. I really looked up to my brother, so I decided to cheer them on as a child, and have supported them ever since. That, and the fact that there is never a dull moment with Spurs!
5. What is the best and worst thing about your job?
The best thing so far is working with such a great team of people, with real ambition and a desire to grow. I am looking forward to the exciting challenges ahead.
There isn’t anything bad about my job - if I have to pick something, I’ll say not enough hours in the day – time goes so quickly!
6. If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
A cat, as long as I could live in my house. My cat is spoiled rotten, so I would want to be that cat and be looked after in the same way.
7. What’s your favourite movie and why?
Shawshank Redemption. For the feeling of hope – never give up!
8. What do you expect to happen in the bridging finance industry over the next 12 months?
As bridging becomes more “mainstream”, I expect the industry to grow, as more brokers/clients recognise the need and benefits of bridging. The number of new entrants will probably continue to grow, resulting in healthy competition. Lenders providing a quality service will prevail and be the lenders of choice.
9. What would you put in room 101 if you had the chance?
For reasons that haunt you – terrorists.
For reasons of sanity – the Go Compare man. I’m irritated just writing it!
10. What’s your favourite book?
Needful Things – Stephen King. One of my favourite authors - I have read it a few times, and it still scares me.
