After winning a Tall Ships race in Bermuda, he found his way to the NACFB...
Katie-Jill Rowland speaks to Adam Tyler, CEO of the NAFCB
1. How long have you been at NACFB?
6 years
2. What did you work as previously?
Most recently I was a regional manager at RBS.
B&C: And what brought you to the NACFB?
I was seconded from the bank to assist in the growth of the NACFB and when the former CEO, Keith Heron, retired, I took over.
3. What did you want to be when you were younger?
A Pilot. I was accepted at 16 and began the necessary training but soon realised that Junior Pilots only actually spend a couple of hours in the skies on any given day. Consequently, I re-thought my plans and decided to become an engineer for the Merchant Navy instead.
4. If you could do anything this weekend what would it be?
I’d go away somewhere sunny with my wife.
5. What is the best aspect of your job?
Travelling and meeting so many different and interesting individuals every week.
B&C: And the worst?
Not having enough time in the office to catch up with admin.
6. If you could choose an alternative career what would it be?
I’d be the Captain of a yacht somewhere in the Caribbean.
B&C: Are you an experienced sailor?
Well, yes, sailing is my hobby and whilst I have little time for it now I still sail whenever I get the chance.
7. Where’s your favourite place in the world?
Bermuda.
B&C: Why Bermuda?
I have a lot of fond memories of the place... In the mid eighties I was part of the winning team of 16 who did the Tall Ships Race in the waters.
8. If you could swap lives with one person for a day who would it be?
This would be anybody who is involved with Travel writing, just the thought of travelling the world for a living still appeals.
9. What would you put in room 101 if you had the chance?
Ignorant and bigoted people.
10. What do you expect to happen in the commercial lending market over the next 12 months?
I expect the market to continue to improve slowly through 2011 and gain more momentum in the first half of 2012 as we get towards the Olympics.
